ANDROSCOGGIN RIVER TRAIL

  • Project Location: Lisbon, ME
  • Services Provided:
    • Geotechnical consulting
  • Project Summary:
    • The project consists of a 2.1-mile bicycle and pedestrian walkway with retaining walls, culvert crossings, and a 15-foot tall embankment for a 150-foot wetland crossing
  • Project Challenges / Innovation:
    • Geotechnical challenges included swamp deposits (peat) and marine deposits (soft clay) contributing to reduced bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability limitations
    • Designed an embankment section with 1 Horizontal to 1 Vertical slopes using geotextile, riprap, and engineered fill
    • In addition to the geotechnical investigation, completed designs for 503 linear feet of Stone Strong gravity retaining walls and a box culvert using LRFD methodology
    • Designed for a reinforced soil slope using a Geoweb© retaining system by Presto Geosystems for a slope 176 feet long and 20 feet high
