CMP SUBSTATIONS

  • Project Location:
    • Bristol, ME
    • China, ME
    • Sanford, ME
  • Services Provided:
    • Geotechnical consulting
    • Test borings were performed for each site to investigate subsurface conditions
  • Project Summary:
    • New substations were constructed to replace existing substations
    • Structures included transformers, bay structures, transmission lines, substation yards, control houses, and other associated elements of the substations
  • Project Challenges / Innovation:
    • Wide range of subsurface conditions including fill, alluvial sands, glacial till, and shallow bedrock
    • SGS conducted resistivity testing for each site using the Wenner 4 Probe method
    • Geotechnical design included a range of challenges from earthwork cut/fills, global slope stability, changes in subgrade conditions, various foundation systems (footings/piers/piles), frost design, seismic design, and corrosion potential
