LINCOLN ACADEMY -- TECHNOLOGY CENTER & DORMITORY
- Project Location: Newcastle, ME
- Services Provided:
- Geotechnical consulting.
- A combination of test borings with SPT sampling and seismic cone penetration tests (SCPTu) were performed using an AMS PowerProbe© 9500 VTR to investigate subsurface conditions.
- Project Summary:
- The technology center is as a single-story building structure with a footprint of 7,000 ft2 constructed within a hillside requiring a significant bedrock cut.
- The dormitory is a 3-story building structure with a footprint of 11,000 ft2 and a basement foundation.
- Project Challenges / Innovation:
- Bedrock was processed onsite for reuse as engineer fill. Additional quantities were trucked offsite as a credit to the project.
- The dormitory was underlain by miscellaneous fill and marine deposits requiring over-excavation and stabilization with geotextile and crushed stone.
- Performed subgrade inspections during construction to verify rock competency for ledge pinning at the technology center and for subgrade stabilization used for the dormitory.
