  • Project Location: South Portland, ME
  • Services Provided:
    • Geotechnical consulting.
    • A combination of test borings with SPT sampling and seismic cone penetration tests (SCPTu) were performed using an AMS PowerProbe© 9500 VTR to investigate subsurface conditions. 
  • Project Summary:
    • The building is a 3-story structure with a partial basement foundation and a 32,500 ft2
    • Site design included short retaining walls and a porous pavement section.
  • Project Challenges / Innovation: 
    • Geotechnical challenges included soft marine deposits, miscellaneous fill with stumps/organics, and seasonally perched groundwater.
    • Project included a comprehensive subgrade inspection program for implementation of suitable stabilization methods as deemed appropriate.
    • Stabilization methods included proof-rolling, geotextile and/or crushed stone improvement, dewatering, and over-excavation as directed by the geotechnical engineer.
