MID-COAST SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY

  • Project Location: Rockland, ME
  • Services Provided:
    • Geotechnical consulting.
    • Subsurface conditions were explored using test borings with SPT split spoon sampling and NQ rock coring. 
  • Project Summary:
    • Constructed to replace the existing school, the technology center is a two-story building structure with a footprint of 90,000 ft2
    • Construction included site fill of up to 10 feet with a new perimeter access road and parking lot. 
  • Project Challenges / Innovation: 
    • The building was underlain by miscellaneous fill and marine deposits overlying bedrock.
    • In addition to its geotechnical investigation, SGS conducted a geothermal well study for a planned geothermal heating system. 
    • The performed geothermal investigation included the installation of a 420-foot test well, estimating groundwater yield potential, chloride testing, and subsequent geothermal conductivity testing.
